Gantt Chart Overview

The Gantt Chart has several main components. These components contain in general the same elements in different Gantt Chart modes, but in some of them some elements are absent. These components are:

  • Menu Bar (1)
  • Information Bar (2)
  • Steps Data (Left Part, 3)
  • Steps Chart (Right Part, 4)
Information Bar

There are some useful information is shown there:

  • Process name (34) that links to proper process details page. It is displayed in all Gantt chart modes.
  • Record name (35) that links to proper record page. It is displayed on Gantt charts of started process instances only.
  • Template mode warning (36). It is displayed only in Template mode.
  • "Open Gantt with Skipped Steps" button (37) that is shown only for process instances that have steps skipped during process proceeding.
Steps Data

This is a left part of Gantt Chart. It is separated from the right part with border (38). Drag this border to change ratio of left and right parts widths. Arrow buttons (39) have same function:

Steps Data contains information about all steps in the process and subprocesses. It is a table with the following columns:

  • # (number, 40) contains indexes of Gantt chart rows for assistance
  • i (information, 41) contains special icons representing some step properties, and show step properties popup when clicked.
  • Name (42) displays names of steps, process, sub-processes and connected instances. Names of processes and connected instances are shown in bold font. Also they have Collapse/Expand buttons (50) that allow to collapse or expand the whole process/subprocess/connected instance.
  • Duration (43) shows durations of steps and total durations of processes, sub-processes and connected instances. See proper article to know more about durations and dates. Durations of processes and connected instances are shown in bold font. In Planned and Edit modes of Gantt chart durations are editable.
  • Start Planned (44) displays Planned Start dates of steps, process, sub-processes and connected instances. In Planned and Edit modes of Gantt chart dates can be editable, see proper article to know the principles.  
  • Start Actual (45) displays Actual Start dates for active and completed steps and prognosed start dates for future steps. This column is shown in Gantt charts of started process instances only.
  • End Planned (46) displays Planned End dates.
  • End Actual/Due Date (47) displays Actual End dates for completed steps and Due dates for active and prognosed steps. This column is shown in Gantt charts of started process instances only.
  • Responsibility (48) displays the name of Responsibility which step belongs to. If responsibility is overridden, this will be shown in the next column.
  • Assigned To (49) displays the assignee types (in square brackets) and name(s) - they will correspond to Responsibility which step belongs to, or to Responsibility Override settings of the step.
  • Active steps are highlighted with yellow color.
  • Step which is hovered with mouse is highlighted with light green color, as far as date column in the right part of Gantt chart.
Steps Chart

This is a right part of Gantt Chart. It contains the following elements:

  • Date columns (51):
    • They are grouped by weeks (52).
    • Each date column represents one day.
    • Days of week are marked in column headers (53).
    • Current day (today) is highlighted with pink (54).
    • Weekends and holidays (set in Business Hours) are grayed (55).
    • Hovered date is highlighted with light green (56) and indicated with tooltip (57).
  • Step lines (58) representing date/time intervals:
    • Planned (blue).
    • Completed (green).
    • Active (yellow).
    • Future prognosed (light gray).
  • Process/sub-process/connected instance brackets (59) representing total length of proper thing (from the planned start date of earliest step to the last planned end date of latest step).

The following elements are shown only if one type of lines is displayed (Planned or Actual):

  • Connections between steps (60).
  • Critical tasks outlines (61, red borders).
